About The Position

Provides safe, accurate, and efficient patient care in the Hematology Oncology Center. This includes patient assessment, review of labs and vital signs, medication safety, dose verification, and drug administration. The role also involves triage care when necessary and effective communication with multidisciplinary team members. The nurse will follow all Job Breakdown Instructions (JBIs) associated with the role.

Requirements

  • Nursing Degree
  • Unencumbered RN License in state of employment or multi-state license
  • Current CPR and BLS certifications
  • Valid Driver’s License and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed
  • Experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital setting
  • Ability to assess patient needs and condition
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Fluency in the English language with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook required
  • EMR proficiency

Nice To Haves

  • Second language is an asset but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and accurately administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, supportive care, and non-oncologic agents to patients as ordered by providers, using Oncology Nurse’s Society (ONS) standards and guidelines.
  • Ensure accurate and safe disposal of biohazardous waste, per OSHA and NIOSH guidelines.
  • Provide new and ongoing patient education, continual patient assessment, and support.
  • Thoroughly, accurately, and timely document treatment rendered to patients in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Ensure appropriate charges are captured by following guidelines for appropriate administration of all medications and activities.
  • Follow proper patient identification per JBI for all patient encounters.
  • Educate patients and caregivers about medications, side effects, and planned treatment course.
  • Interact with patients and families in a caring, professional manner.
  • Handle telephone triage, including prioritizing incoming calls and messages from patients, family members, hospitals, nursing facilities, pharmacies, and physician offices from emergent to non-urgent, and respond accordingly in an appropriate time frame.
  • Assist with inventory and re-stocking medical supplies, recommend purchase of new items as needed, and place stock in storage areas in a timely manner.
  • Complete annual required safety and nursing trainings.
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings as necessary.
  • Maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient and employee information.
  • Assist in training new employees related to job duties according to JBIs.
  • Work at any Company location to help meet the Company’s business needs on an as-needed basis, within reasonable expectations.
  • Work overtime when given sufficient notice.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Comply with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy, patient’s rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law.
  • Adhere to Company and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Plan.
