About The Position

3 East – Oncology/Nephrology Registered Nurse - PRN. This is a 27-bed unit with a primary focus on renal and oncology patients. An individualized orientation program with knowledgeable preceptors focuses on clinical skill development and enhancement of the professional role within the Med-Surg environment. PRN nurses will need to work a minimum of 24 hours off shift per 6-week schedule. This position involves a 12-hour day/evening/night rotation, and weekend and holiday work as needed. Shift and Weekend Differential Eligibility applies. The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for implementing, directing, and coordinating the care of patients through the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This includes recognition and treatment of the physical and psychosocial changes unique to the age/population group served on the specific unit.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required.
  • Evidence of participation in educational programs to update and maintain current knowledge and clinical skills.
  • Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required.
  • Eligible for or currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in Pennsylvania.
  • CPR certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
  • Previous nursing experience in specialty area preferred.
  • Certification in specialty preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Completes accurate problem-focused patient assessments and treatments.
  • Identifies abnormal clinical findings and responds appropriately.
  • Evaluates patient response to medications and treatments.
  • Performs peritoneal dialysis (only RNs assigned to renal, pediatrics, and oncology 3 East unit).
  • Accesses and deaccesses med ports.
  • Administers chemotherapy agents.
  • Demonstrates appropriate procedure for the discard of chemotherapy agents and clean-up of spills.
  • Demonstrate the appropriate technique for bladder scanner.
  • Cares for the Bariatric patient.
  • Performs continuous bladder irrigation.
  • Performs intermittent hand bladder irrigation.
  • Cares for the postoperative orthopedic patient.
  • Cares for the neurological patient.
  • Cares for the patient receiving lidocaine infusion.
  • Cares for the postoperative neurological patient.
  • Cares for the neurovascular patient.
  • Cares for the acute renal failure patient.
  • Demonstrates appropriate care of the patient with a PCA or epidural pump.
  • Rounds with physicians.
  • Demonstrates appropriate pre/post operative patient management.
  • Utilizes appropriate fall prevention protocols.
  • Demonstrates understanding and application of pain management techniques.
  • Provides care to the pediatric/adolescent in accordance with age-specific development (Videos and hands-on demonstration are required to be viewed on orientation and reviewed yearly at skills day), including a medication exam.
  • POC demonstration in PCS (Attention to age-specific documentation). This is audited with PE tools.
  • Completion of 8-hour Pediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) class.
