About The Position

As a Registered Nurse in our Oncology Infusion department, you will lead the coordination and delivery of quality, compassionate patient care. You'll utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care, ensuring patients and families receive the support they need. Your role is vital in fostering collaboration within the healthcare team and driving solutions to meet patient goals, making a direct difference in patient outcomes and experiences.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current licensure by the Michigan State Board of Nursing.
  • Health care provider certification (BCLS).
  • Clinical knowledge and analytical abilities to formulate effective nursing care plans.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of professional nursing services.
  • Effective communication skills with patients, families, and hospital personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in coordinating and delivering compassionate patient care within the oncology infusion setting.
  • Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, with particular attention to chemotherapy and infusion therapy protocols.
  • Administer chemotherapy and other infusion medications according to established protocols, ensuring accurate dosing, proper technique, and patient safety.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions, side effects, and complications during and after infusion therapy, taking appropriate interventions as needed.
  • Manage and maintain venous access devices, including peripheral lines, PICC lines, and implanted ports, following infection prevention standards.
  • Delegate, supervise, and document care and teaching for patients and families regarding treatment protocols, expected side effects, and self-care management.
  • Communicate pertinent patient and family information to the oncology healthcare team, including physicians, pharmacists, social workers, and support services.
  • Provide patient education on treatment plans, potential side effects, symptom management strategies, and available supportive care resources.
  • Participate in finding and implementing solutions for variances from patient goals and treatment outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all infusion therapy, patient responses, and nursing interventions in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Advocate for patient needs and provide emotional support to patients and families navigating cancer treatment.
