About The Position

The Obstetrics Registered Nurse shall observe and assess the patient's clinical condition, recognizing, identifying, and interpreting serious situations and immediately deciding and taking appropriate action. Shall formulate a nursing diagnosis. Planning, scheduling and providing comprehensive antepartum and postpartum nursing care for women and newborns in an Obstetrical Unit. Shall initiate appropriate measures in emergency situations when physicians are not immediately available. Shall operate and monitor general and specialized nursing equipment utilized in the Obstetrical Care department. The OB RN shall administer therapeutic measures and medications as prescribed by the physician. Planning, providing, and documenting the teaching of patients and families in preventive curative and rehab measures. Recording observations and nursing interventions as well as therapeutic measure administered and the status of coordinated activities between nursing and other professional disciplines. Shall complete the Indian Health Service required training. Proper and adequate services for patient care shall be in accordance with standard of nursing practices and shall be equal in quality to services normally performed for the public and a Joint Commission Accreditation for Healthcare Organization accredited facility. All nurses shall have proficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to use a computer.

Requirements

  • Possess a bachelor's degree in Nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision -OR- Possess of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and at least one full year of professional nursing experience-OR- Possess a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing.
  • Schooling must be approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time of completion: the ACEN or the CCNE.
  • Possess a current, valid, unrestricted nursing license within the Continental United States.
  • Must have BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP.
  • Fetal heart monitoring courses are required.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years full-time Obstetrics specific experience.
  • Will need documentation of receiving a TB skin test within the past 12 months with documentation of a follow-up for a positive test.
  • Proficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to use a computer.

Nice To Haves

  • STABLE certification preferred.
  • 5 years' experience is preferred, with a minimum of those years occurring at a tertiary level facility.
  • Certified RNC-OB preferred.
