About The Position

Provides direct patient care in the Labor and Delivery, Recovery and Post-Partum settings. Provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care. Communicates with physicians about changes in patient’s clinical condition. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Performs general nursing duties in Labor and Delivery and Mother/Baby departments.

Requirements

  • Associate degree Nursing
  • Active Washington State RN license or eligible compact license
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP
  • AWHONN Intermediate EFM
  • One (1) or more years of recent Labor and Delivery/Newborn Nursery experience
  • Maintain regulatory requirements
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled; complete work within designated timelines.
  • Demonstrates the ability to adhere to the mission, ethics and goals of the District.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate with patients, guests and staff in a courteous, respectful and helpful manner.
  • U.S. citizens and lawfully authorized non-U.S. citizens.
  • Show employment eligibility verification as required by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and assists physician with care for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn patients, including assisting with c-sections, educating families in infant and self-care.
  • Meets current standards and policies of medication administration and documentation.
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family, colleagues, and all members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Monitors and interprets fetal heart rate and uterine activity through continuous EFM, and palpations; Provides appropriate interventions and re-evaluation based on AWHONN and ACOG guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Recognizes and responds appropriately to obstetrical emergencies.
  • Participates in departmental projects and performance improvement activities.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops; shows responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Float to other departments, as needed, once orientation and skills checklist has been completed.
