About The Position

This role is for a Nurse Resident starting in September 2026, focusing on Medical/Surgical Nursing. The position involves attending quality and core curriculum classes, participating in professional development, and completing clinical competencies. The Nurse Resident works under the supervision of the Clinical Education Team and a licensed Registered Nurse to refine nursing knowledge and skills, manage clinical situations, and adhere to organizational policies. Requirements

  • Associate degree in Nursing.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing.
  • Holds a current RN compact/multistate license recognized by the NCSBN Compact State or is licensed to practice as an RN in the state the team member is working.
  • In lieu of RN licensure upon hire, a temporary license/Graduate Nurse licensure may be accepted upon receipt of diploma, authorization to test and NCLEX testing date.
  • The Graduate Nurse may work in a provisional status with NCLEX testing date provided prior to hire.
  • After Jan 1, 2019, all newly hired RN’s at Prisma Health are required to have an ADN or BSN degree from an accredited institution/program recognized by the U.S. Dept. of Education or the State Board of Nursing.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
  • No previous experience is required. Candidates with greater than 12 months of experience are not eligible.

Responsibilities

  • Attend all quality and core curriculum classes.
  • Actively participate in professional development workshops and peer support groups.
  • Successfully complete all clinical competencies and validation requirements of the Nurse Residency Program.
  • Work under the direct and indirect supervision of the Clinical Education Team while refining nursing knowledge and skills.
  • Actively participate in managing clinical situations under the direct supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse.
  • Adhere to policy and procedure requirements including licensure renewal, assigned training, employee health screenings, time and attendance, dress code, patient confidentiality, infection control, and medication administration.
  • Collect patient data and complete required forms with appropriate responses.
  • Identify patient problems/needs and set priorities, including identifying problems requiring further referral/follow-up.
  • Interpret and record latest diagnostic results.
  • Perform nursing assessment using critical thinking skills under the direct supervision of a licensed RN.
  • Develop a plan of care based on the nursing process, incorporating other disciplines and continuing care needs.
  • Include the patient/family in developing or revising the plan of care.
  • Make referrals to multidisciplinary support services under the direct supervision of a licensed RN.
  • Provide treatments/procedures and other care as prescribed and according to patient care standards.
  • Demonstrate understanding of age-related characteristics and needs of patients served.
  • Explain nursing procedures and provide discharge teaching.
  • Identify emergency situations and independently initiate advanced therapy.
  • Act as an advocate and coordinator of patient care with other health care personnel.
  • Evaluate patient care measures instituted.
  • Understand and demonstrate respect for patient rights and utilize established mechanisms for management of ethical issues.
  • Record patient care delivered as planned and any variation, with appropriate rationale.
  • Make and record observations related to impending or associated problems.
  • Implement nursing measures related to impending or associated problems.
  • Delegate nursing care to appropriate personnel using the nursing process.
  • Integrate cost-effective measures into nursing practice.
  • Recognize unit problems and take responsibility for documenting them.
  • Demonstrate active participation in QI processes.
  • Comply with hospital expectations to meet staffing demands based on patient care needs.
  • Comply with policies addressing safe working conditions and monitor unsafe working conditions.
  • Recognize inappropriate and/or ineffective patient care management, resolve issues/problems, and complete written reports.
  • Fulfill call for unit as assigned and adjust staffing for census (volume) and acuity.
  • Complete all clinical skills under the direct supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
