The Registered Nurse (RN) on the NOC shift may provide direct nursing care to residents and supervises the day-to-day nursing activities performed by licensed practical/vocational nurses and certified nursing assistants. This role ensures adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as facility policies and procedures. The position promotes holistic care for residents, manages admissions, discharges, and transfers, and assesses changes in resident status, communicating with physicians and families. The RN transcribes physician orders, administers medications, performs wound treatments, and schedules follow-up appointments and transportation. Direct care skills include colostomy changes, tube feedings, wound care, suctioning, and IV administration. The role involves performing rounds, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, participating in management meetings, and potentially assisting with performance evaluations and disciplinary actions. The RN also handles reporting concerns, incidents, and grievances, participates in end-of-life care, ensures adequate stock of supplies, and initiates/updates care plans. Promoting teamwork, mutual respect, and effective communication is essential, as is participation in survey processes and QAPI activities. Ensuring infection control principles are followed and correcting deficiencies are key responsibilities. Additional tasks include treating residents with dignity and respect, promoting residents' rights, establishing a culture of compliance, following safety and hygiene measures, maintaining confidentiality, reporting noncompliance and retaliation, reporting allegations of abuse, protecting residents from abuse, reporting occupational exposures, participating in emergency drills, and reporting work-related injuries. Compliance with facility policies and procedures is a condition of employment and will be a factor in performance evaluations.
