About The Position

This position coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching, acts as a patient advocate and works as part of a team with ancillary and non-nursing departments. The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for performing plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care treatments. They document patient care given, monitor and communicate patient condition, and assist patients with daily living activities. The role involves collaborating across disciplines, educating patients and families, and acting as an advocate for patient well-being. The nurse assesses patient needs, sets goals, prescribes interventions, develops and implements care plans, and evaluates outcomes. They administer medications, treatments, and therapies, communicate with patients, and provide relevant instruction and education. Accurate documentation of observations, assessments, medications, treatments, and care provided is essential. Non-essential functions include assisting with orientation and training of personnel and students, participating in meetings, and performing other related duties. Additional responsibilities include maintaining facility equipment, supplies, and work areas, coordinating and supervising employee activities and department operations, and participating in performance/process improvement activities.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing required
  • Current RN license in state of practice
  • BCLS upon completion of hospital orientation
  • Ability to understand, communicate, and react effectively to patient and family needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred
  • One or more years of recent Labor and Delivery, Postpartum and Newborn Nursery experience preferred
  • ACLS and PALS within six months of hire or transfer date to position.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS Certification (or) obtained within 90 days after hire date
  • Current S.T.A.B.L.E. certification OR obtained after 6 months of nursery experience but prior to completing 12 months of nursery experience.
  • Successful completion of Neonatal Resuscitation certification within 90 days after hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
  • Documents patient care given.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
  • Assesses the patient’s condition and nursing care needs.
  • Sets goals and prescribes appropriate nursing interventions to meet physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative needs of patients.
  • Develops individual nursing care plans.
  • Implements care plans and makes revisions as needed.
  • Evaluates patient care outcomes.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other hospital employees.
  • Administers medications, treatments and therapies.
  • Communicates with patients and oversees provision of care.
  • Provides patients and/or family with instruction and education relevant to condition.
  • Accurately documents nursing observations, assessments, medications, treatments, and other care given.
  • Assist with orientation and training of personnel and students.
  • Participates and attends meetings as required and/ or assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Maintains facility equipment, supplies and work areas.
  • Assists in the orientation of new employees.
  • Coordinates and supervises activities of employees and department operations.
  • Participates in performance/process improvement activities.
