About The Position

Seeking experienced NICU RNs to join our NICU team! This exciting career offers opportunities for continued education and growth. Come check us out!!! Our Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery is a fourteen-bed level III intensive care unit providing family centered care to critically ill newborns. We are one of only six hospitals in the nation to receive the 2017 Guardian of Excellence Award for Neonatal Intensive Care Patient Experience. St. Joseph's Health is one of only two hospitals in New York State to be recognized in Newsweek's 2021 list of Best Maternity Hospitals. Nationally, only 217 facilities met Leapfrog safety standards for excellence in maternity care by following important protocols to protect moms and babies. Our specialties include life support and comprehensive care of premature and critically ill infants. Specialized orientation includes Neonatal Resuscitation. We incorporate a primary care nursing model with a team approach to meet the needs of the patient population. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure in the State of New York.
  • 1-year experience in NICU required.
  • Maintains all licensures and certifications according to NYS regulations and specialty area requirements.
  • Participates in continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.

Nice To Haves

  • Baccalaureate Degree in the Science of Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited school of nursing preferred, according to NYS requirements.
  • Specialty credentialing & educational degree according to clinical nursing practice specialty area preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for collaboration, communication & facilitation of family centered provision of care, family/caregiver education, goal setting, and critical thinking.
  • Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring & evaluation of the patient's plan of care from admission to discharge.
  • Attend and support care of newborns during high-risk deliveries.
  • Collaborative team approach: Our interdisciplinary team includes, OB providers, certified nurse midwives, registered nurses, lactation consultants, social workers, and spiritual care.
  • Participate in monitoring quality metrics specific to the department & ensure complete & accurate documentation in the patient record.
  • Act as 1) mentor; 2) clinician; 3) educator; 4) consultant/collaborator; and 5) navigator.
