About The Position

The RN Residency (RN New Grad) Program is designed for newly graduated Registered Nurses to develop their skills and knowledge in a supportive environment. This program, specifically for the Med/Surg/Tele Cohort starting August 17, 2026, aims to provide comprehensive training and hands-on experience. The application deadline is Friday, June 5, 2026. Applicants are required to submit a complete application including a personal statement, resume, letters of recommendation, BSN Diploma, transcripts, and licenses/certifications. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The program emphasizes the coordination of patient care, utilization of critical thinking, nursing process, discharge planning, resource identification, linking patients with services, monitoring care delivery, patient advocacy, care planning, and outcome evaluation. It also involves coordinating patient care across the healthcare continuum and assisting team members. Flexibility in hours may be required, and the 12-hour shifts at Huntington Health include a premium pay structure for hours worked beyond 8 hours.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited Bachelor’s in Nursing or a Master of Science in Nursing
  • Associate in Nursing Degree may be considered for current Huntington Hospital employee, must be currently enrolled in a BSN or MSN program and commit to completing within 2 years from date of transfer/promotion.
  • Newly graduated Registered Nurse with a total of less than one year of nursing experience in any area by the start of the program

  • Personal Statement - The personal statement must not exceed two pages (12-pt font, double spaced) and should include: why you selected nursing as a profession what being a nurse means to you what will you bring to the profession of nursing at Huntington Hospital. On the top portion of your personal statement, answer the following: Are you currently employed at Huntington Hospital? Yes/No If yes, what unit are you currently working in and in what role? What are your top three preferences for employment (1 being first preference, 2 second, 3 third) - Pick 3
  • Include copies of the following: Unofficial academic transcripts or Nursing Diploma
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • A description of any volunteer service you’ve performed
  • California Registered Nurse license (Primary Source Verification document from the BRN Web Site)
  • Certifications (BLS/ACLS etc.)
  • Active participation and successful completion of assigned New Grad training program, required.
  • Successful completion of Basic Dysrhythmia course curriculum within 60 days of hire, required.
  • Basic computer skills/experience with computerized documentation systems, required.
  • Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN)
  • Current Basic Life Support Provider (BLS) issued by American Heart Association
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Provider (ACLS) issued by American Heart Association within 3 months of hire/transfer
  • Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification within 3 months of hire/transfer

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for coordination of care to meet identified needs of the patient/family.
  • Supervises the management of patient care utilizing critical thinking and nursing process, discharge planning, resource identification, linking and scheduling patients with required services, monitoring care delivery, advocating for the patient, care planning and evaluating outcomes.
  • Coordinates patient care across the health care continuum, and assists other team members with meeting individual patient needs.
