About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Neuroscience ICU. This is a full-time position working 36 hours per week on the night shift (7p-7a). The Registered Nurse is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care using the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. Professional performance standards encompass ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN must possess the clinical knowledge and skills required for specific clinical areas. The Neuroscience Critical Care Unit provides intensive care for patients with severe neurological conditions such as strokes, brain hemorrhages, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, tumors, and seizures. The unit utilizes a multidisciplinary team, advanced monitoring technology (continuous EEG, intracranial pressure monitoring), and coordinated care to stabilize and support patients, aiming for improved survival and functional outcomes.

Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
• Registered nursing License (Required)
• BLS required within 90 days of hire
• Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days of hire.
• Minimum of 1 year emergency, intermediate care, intensive care or med/surg highly preferred

• Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)

• Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
• Utilize the standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
• Adhere to the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
• Provide intensive care for patients with severe, life-threatening neurological conditions.
• Work with a multidisciplinary team.
• Utilize advanced monitoring technology like continuous EEG monitoring, and intracranial pressure monitoring.
• Provide coordinated care to stabilize and support patients.
