About The Position

UPMC Presbyterian, a Magnet designated hospital, is seeking a Casual Registered Nurse to join our Neuro Division. This role will initially focus on the 5G Neuro Trauma unit and will transition to the Neurosurgery Unit, 6D, following the opening of the Kamin Tower in January 2027. The Kamin Tower is a state-of-the-art facility designed for safety, efficiency, and comfort, offering a modern workplace. About the Units:
5G is a 22-bed progressive care unit specializing in complex brain and spinal cord trauma, stroke, and various neurosurgical patients. Nurses focus on the comprehensive physical, mental, and emotional well-being of patients and their support systems, fostering advocacy and collaboration within the interdisciplinary care team. It's a fast-paced environment offering valuable experience with a diverse patient population, collaborating with world-renowned trauma and neurosurgeons, neurologists, and internists.

6D Neurosurgery is an 18-bed unit specializing in recovery from spinal surgeries and craniotomies, also accepting overflow stroke patients. It offers a positive and supportive environment with strong teamwork and knowledge sharing. The unit provides exposure to diverse patient populations within other medical-surgical specialties, making it suitable for graduate nurses or those seeking broad knowledge and experience. Nurses collaborate with world-renowned neurosurgeons known for their innovative microvascular surgical approach.

The UPMC Neuroscience service line is a leading program in neurologic research and training, providing personalized and comprehensive care for a wide range of neurological disorders. Our units offer expert care from leading specialists aided by the latest medical technology, from severe brain trauma intervention to skillful management of neurological illnesses. We define the standard of care for stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, movement disorders, and other neurological disorders.

Requirements

• Graduate Nurses that are eligible for the State Board Licensure and Staff Nurses with nursing experience will be considered for this position.
• The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit.
• Must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients' requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
• Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
• Good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
• Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.
• Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
• CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
• ACLS required within 12 months of beginning employment.
• Act 34 Criminal Clearance
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support
