About The Position

Capital Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Neuro Interventional Radiology department. This role involves planning and providing individualized patient care, fostering a supportive environment, and facilitating communication among the health team. The nurse will assess patient needs, develop discharge plans, and assist in teaching neurovascular care. Responsibilities include following up on interventions, mobilizing resources for patient recovery, and providing accurate health information to patients and families. The role also involves performing initial assessments, anticipating patient deterioration, and documenting clinical changes and outcomes. The nurse will administer medications safely, document according to standards, and teach unit-specific technical skills. They will also participate in performance improvement activities, assist with orientation plans, and use judgment to modify care regimens. The position requires organizing unit activities, potentially serving in charge or preceptor roles, and maintaining supplies for the CNI lab. Commitment to Capital Health and adaptability to changing demands are expected. The nurse may rotate between interventional labs, participate in research, and assist co-workers. This is a full-time position with a 40-hour work week.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Three years critical care experience.
  • One year of interventional radiology experience.
  • AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider.
  • Registered Nurse - NJ.
  • Requires NIH Stroke Scale Certification (or must obtain by end of orientation).
  • Requires 8 hours of Stroke related Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) contact hours annually if assigned to: Critical Care, Intermediate Care Unit, Emergency Department, Neuro Units, Cardiology Inpatient at Hopewell, Peds ED, PACU, Interventional Radiology, CNI, Observation, Hospital at Home.
  • Requires ACLS (or must obtain within 6 months of hire date) if assigned to: Critical Care/Intermediate/Telemetry, Emergency Rooms, Pediatrics/Pediatrics Emergency Room, Labor & Delivery, Surgical Services (not to include Perioperative), Interventional Procedures, Observation.
  • Requires NRP (or must obtain within 6 months of hire date) if assigned to: Maternity Services.
  • Requires PALS (or must obtain within 6 months of hire date) if assigned to: Emergency Rooms, Infant Follow-Up, Surgical Services (only PACU & Same Day Surgery), Pediatrics/Pediatric ED.

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Neuroscience experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and provides unique, individualized comfort measures utilizing intuitive, innovative approaches which are scientifically based.

  • Assists in design and implementation of teaching neurovascular component of ICU nursing care.

  • Mobilizes resources in complex cases to maximize patients control and participation over his/her own recovery.
  • Collaborates with case manager to discuss alternatives to care in preparation for family centered conference.
  • Provides patient and family with accurate information regarding health problems, enabling them to become active participants in health care decisions.
  • Develops independently an individualized teaching plan and incorporates aspects of cultural diversity specific to the patient.
  • Confers with treatment team regarding special needs of patient and family upon discharge.
  • Performs and documents an initial history and assessment which reflects the patient's potential for wellness.
  • Anticipates deterioration before the evidence is convincing in terms of changes in vital signs and measurable outcomes, plans for intervention, documents accurately and evaluates the effectiveness of treatment.
  • Anticipates problems that might arise in complex or unusual clinical situations.
  • Integrates assessment and diagnostic information with intuition to foresee potential age-specific healthcare needs.
  • Anticipates deterioration while recognizing the importance of reacting quickly and appropriately without over-reacting.
  • Thoroughly and accurately documents clinical changes, interventions and outcomes.
  • Ensures handoff communication includes a report in terms of the situations most likely to develop and the problems awaiting resolution in the next 8-10 hours.
  • Intuitively grasps the problem and oversees a clinical situation by mobilizing available resources.
  • Displays the ability to rapidly grasp the threatening emergency and initiates treatment measures.
  • Administers medications accurately and safely.
  • Documents patient's records according to the nursing process, ANA Code for Nurses and Capital Health Patient Services Division Standards of Practice.
  • Performs, teaches and demonstrates technical skills specific to assigned nursing unit.
  • Identifies proactively issues to be resolved related to patient education for medication management.
  • Participates in various aspects of unit based chart review and patient services performance improvement activities related to documentation.
  • Assists unit nurse manager and clinical nurse specialist with development/revision of the unit based orientation plan.
  • Uses discretionary judgments to appropriately modify patient care regimens.
  • Facilitates appropriate response from other health team members using clear, convincing rationale.
  • Evaluates the quality and appropriateness of care, identifies problems and initiates and documents improvement of care.
  • Explores multiple aspects of care regimen with case manager and health care providers to promote resolution of hospitalization.
  • Advocates to LIP and/or other health members on behalf of patient using clear, convincing rationale to lead the response/treatment needed to meet the patients needs.
  • Participates in the evaluation of unit standards of care and identification of actual or potential problems.
  • Organizes unit activities to mobilize resources in a changing environment.
  • Displays competency in charge and preceptor roles.
  • Follows established policies and procedures for attendance, punctuality and continuing education.
  • Displays ability to see the entire unit and is self motivated to develop a plan for adjusting staffing patterns.
  • Utilizes non-productive time efficiently and has not received any disciplinary action related to non-productive time.
  • Maintains RN supplies for CNI lab.
  • Places and or oversees order placement for items needed.
  • Maintains RN documentation and administration of supplies for effective management of lab.
  • Displays commitment to Capital Health.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Possesses a willingness to adapt to changing department demands.
  • Displays participation in unit/hospital committees.
  • Demonstrates willingness to assist co-workers during periods of heightened patient care activity.
  • Rotates between interventional labs across both campuses as needed.
