About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse for our Neuro ICU. This is a 12-hour night shift position, 36 hours per week, for a 13-week contract. Our unit is a comprehensive stroke center with a patient population including strokes (ischemic, hemorrhagic [SAH]), SDH, craniotomies, carotid stents, carotid endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, and myasthenia gravis. We utilize EVDs, LDs, hemovacs, and Camino (ICP monitoring) drains. Special equipment includes EVD, Lumbar Drains, Camino, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun. Unit systems include Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR. Orientation is 24 hours (2 days or 2 nights). Scrubs are navy blue and white. RTO after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on the unit could possibly result in a Cancel and DNR. A maximum of 7 days of RTO is allowed for AYA AUTO OFFER.

Requirements

Minimum of 2 years of experience in Neuro Intensive Care Unit.
Must have strong Neuro Critical Care background, not just general ICU.
Unit will NOT accept 1st time Travelers.
ACLS certification.
BCLS certification.
NIH certification.
Proficiency in Vents.
Proficiency in IV Start.
Proficiency in Interpretation of dysrhythmias.
Proficiency in Management of dysrhythmias.
Proficiency in Blood Product Administration.
Proficiency in Central line care/management.
Proficiency in Continuous IV sedation.
Proficiency in CVA/Acute Stroke management.
Experience with External ventricular drains (EVD).
Experience with ICP Monitoring.
Experience with Post Neurosurgery management.
Experience with Care of Ventilated Patient.
Experience with Isolation Precautions/ Use of PPE.
Experience with Lumbar Drain.
Must pass EKG Testing prior to start.

Nice To Haves

Arterial line management experience.

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care in a Neuro Intensive Care Unit setting.
Manage patients with complex neurological conditions including strokes, craniotomies, and seizures.
Monitor and manage patients on ventilators.
Administer continuous IV sedation.
Perform and interpret EKG testing prior to start.
Manage external ventricular drains (EVDs) and lumbar drains (LDs).
Monitor ICP using devices like Camino.
Provide post-neurosurgery management.
Administer blood products.
Manage central lines.
Adhere to isolation precautions and use appropriate PPE.
Work every other weekend.
Float to other units as needed.
