About The Position

This is a hospital work setting, where you will be providing care to the highest level of care for premature and ill newborns, as designated by The American Academy of Pediatrics in a level 1 Trauma Center and is a teaching hospital. Total staffed beds are 323 inpatient beds - 70 of them dedicated to Neonatal ICU.

Requirements

  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree in nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision -OR- Possess of a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • A full, unrestricted license in the District of Columbia is required; candidates willing to apply for their DC license within 24 hours of an offer for the position is also accepted.
  • Must have a minimum of two years' experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved by the American Heart Association (AHA) is mandatory for all specialties.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies disease entities to recognize complications and determine the necessary therapeutic interventions.
  • Perform professional nursing duties in an ICU setting, assessing patients' physical, emotional, spiritual, and socio-cultural needs.
  • Demonstrate skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served, including pre-operative and post-operative nursing care.
  • Will be dealing with the highest level of care for premature and ill newborns, as designated by The American Academy of Pediatrics.
  • Offers the full range of pediatric medical subspecialists, pediatric surgical subspecialists, and pediatric anesthesiologists on site.
  • Perform complex surgical procedures to repair complex congenital or acquired conditions.
  • Coordinates all aspects of care for conditions and associated complications including coagulation defects, congenital heart defects, Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), gastrointestinal disorders, genetic and/or metabolic disorders, prematurity, respiratory distress and failure, pulmonary hypertension, renal disorders and sepsis and septic shock.
