About the Unit: Indiana University Health Multi-Specialty MedSurg (6S) is a fast-paced, 30-bed unit that specializes in caring for a diverse patient population. Patients on this unit may present with conditions related to urology, colorectal, gynecology, general surgery, ENT, and oral and maxillofacial surgery, trauma. Due to the wide range of diagnoses treated on the unit, nurses gain valuable experience caring for a variety of medical and surgical patients. Nursing skills gained on this unit: Patient assessment, Critical thinking, Prioritization of care, Building strength in foundational nursing skills, Caring for a variety of diagnose, Urinary catheter placement, Nasogastric tube placement. Unit Successes & Culture: Strong unit based professional governance council, Decreased Unit based harm percentage.

Requirements

  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • The Registered Nurse (RN) must have graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
