About The Position

Sentara is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) at Norfolk General Hospital's Mother-Baby Unit, in Norfolk Virginia. This is a full-time, night shift position. The Sentara Norfolk General Mother-Baby Unit is a 30-bed unit where nurses assess, ensure proper healing, and provide self-care education to new mothers during their postpartum stay. The unit encourages rooming-in for mother and baby, and the Mom-Baby Nurse assesses the newborn, educates the mother on infant care, and ensures the baby is fed and swaddled. The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care using the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. This role also involves adherence to standards of professional performance such as ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN must possess clinical knowledge and skills to meet the standards required by specific clinical areas. All Direct Care RNs are required to have BLS within 90 days of hire.

Requirements

  • RN Degree REQUIRED
  • Virginia RN License REQUIRED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within 90-days of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Women's Health RN experience PREFERRED

Responsibilities

  • Assess, ensure that proper healing is occurring, and provide self-care education to our new Moms during the post-partum stay.
  • Assess the newborn, clean, feed, and swaddle the baby.
  • Educate the new Mom on proper infant care.
  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
  • Utilize the standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
  • Adhere to the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
