About The Position

This register is for casual vacancies and short, fixed-term vacancies in mental health services. It is open until June 30, 2028. The service welcomes Registered Nurses with specialist qualifications in mental health, as well as those seeking a pathway into the specialism or to broaden their current skills. Opportunities exist to work within a multi-disciplinary team across the lifespan in various settings including inpatient, residential, hospital in the home, community, forensic, and correctional health. The Tasmanian Mental Health Reform Program is expanding and redesigning services, with new integrated care hubs, enhanced responses to suicidal distress, and new 24-hour community-based beds.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with specialist qualifications in mental health, or looking for a pathway into the specialism or to broaden current skills and experience.
  • Core nursing skills including critical thinking, nursing assessment, care planning, monitoring and observation, and medication safety.
  • Compassionate and empathic.
  • Effective communicator able to establish therapeutic relationships with consumers and their friends and families.
  • Self-aware and use reflective practice.
  • Interested in people from all walks of life and have a non-judgemental attitude.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including active listening.
  • Ability to remain calm and use de-escalation skills.
  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse.
  • Satisfy a pre-employment check including conviction check (crimes of violence, sex related offences, serious drug offences, crimes involving dishonesty), identification check, and disciplinary action in previous employment check.
  • May be required to hold a current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration.
