About The Position

The City of Marion is seeking a Registered Nurse for Mental Health services at the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System (NIHCS). NIHCS aims to provide comprehensive quality primary care, mental health services, and extended care to veterans. The Marion Campus specializes in psychiatry services, nursing home care, and extended care services. The facility, though historic, has undergone recent renovations to ensure a state-of-the-art healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • At least one full year of professional nursing experience.
  • A minimum of 24 months (2 years) experience in a Mental Health environment during the last 36 months.
  • Current, valid, unrestricted nursing license in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as approved by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Evidence of current immunizations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct and indirect nursing care by conducting assessments, determining priorities, and identifying nursing measures and therapeutic objectives.
  • Utilizes the nursing process and an interdisciplinary approach to offer direct, continuous, and comprehensive patient care in the field of Psychiatry.
  • Performs nursing functions related to physician-prescribed treatments, including scrub nursing and circulating nursing during procedures.
  • Assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADL).
  • Administers medications and IV therapies in adherence to local facility policies.
  • Assesses patients and plans appropriate nursing care.
  • Documents the plan of care and care provided in the patient's medical record.
  • Verifies transcriptions of physician's orders and executes and documents prescribed orders.
  • Communicates pertinent patient data to charge nurses or physicians.
  • Reassesses patient conditions and revises care plans based on identified nursing problems.
  • Recognizes and initiates appropriate measures in emergencies.
  • Assists with surgical/diagnostic procedures.
  • Provides patient/family education.
  • Cares for patients with various catheters and prostheses.
  • Conducts skin assessments.
  • Participates in discharge planning.
