About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical-Surgical to provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care in a busy inpatient medical-surgical environment. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of nursing experience, including relief charge nurse experience, and the ability to care for a diverse medical-surgical patient population. New graduate candidates will not be considered. The unit consists of two medical-surgical floors with 23 and 14 beds respectively. The ideal nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5, though it may increase to 1:6 based on staffing and patient acuity. Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) are available at approximately 1:8. Telemetry monitoring is available on the unit, with Monitor Technicians scheduled to monitor and interpret strips. RNs are responsible for reviewing and signing off on telemetry strips throughout the shift. Charge Nurse and House Supervisor support are available.

Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
• Minimum 2 years of professional nursing experience.
• Relief Charge Nurse experience required.
• Medical-surgical experience required.
• Ability to provide safe and effective care to patients with varying levels of acuity.
• Strong clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• BLS certification required.
• New graduates are not eligible for this position.

• Candidates with appropriate ED experience may float to Emergency Department.
• Candidates with appropriate experience may float to Behavioral Health.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, competent, and compassionate nursing care to medical-surgical patients.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and identify changes in condition.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.
• Administer medications and treatments according to established standards and physician orders.
• Monitor vital signs, laboratory results, telemetry, and other clinical data.
• Review and appropriately respond to telemetry information throughout the shift.
• Recognize and promptly communicate significant changes in patient condition.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, PCTs, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, and discharge planning.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation.
• Prioritize and coordinate care for multiple patients in a fast-paced environment.
• Delegate appropriate tasks to PCTs and other team members based on competency and scope of practice.
• Promote patient safety, infection prevention, and quality standards.
• Participate in quality improvement and evidence-based nursing initiatives.
• Support and mentor fellow nurses and other team members.
• Serve as a relief charge nurse when assigned and provide appropriate leadership and support to the nursing team.
• Support daily unit operations.
• Assist with patient assignments.
• Support staff with clinical and operational concerns.
• Communicate with the Charge Nurse and House Supervisor.
• Help coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Promote appropriate staffing and patient-care priorities.
• Support effective communication among the interdisciplinary team.

Benefits

• $37.75–$54.63 per hour
• $4.00/hour night shift differential
• $3.25/hour weekend differential
• $20,000 sign-on bonus with a 2-year commitment
