Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. This role focuses on utilizing standards of medical-surgical nursing practice to enhance the quality of care and quality of life for patients, families, and significant others. The nurse will systematically evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, establish effective relationships, and serve as an advocate for patients and their families. A key aspect of this role involves using the nursing process to develop and implement care plans, including patient assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, intervention, and evaluation. The position requires a comprehensive understanding of patient needs across various dimensions, including physical, functional, cultural, social, economic, developmental, spiritual, vocational, and leisure. Leadership skills are essential for coordinating and collaborating with patients, families, and the inter-professional team. Effective communication is crucial for collaborative decision-making, ensuring care is culturally sensitive, ethical, legal, holistic, informed, compassionate, humane, and economically feasible. The nurse will also educate patients and families on health promotion and comfort measures, and foster a healthy work environment by mentoring colleagues and students. Care delivery must be based on evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge, tailored to the patient's age-specific and clinical needs. The role requires constant alertness and safe practices, with the possibility of performing point-of-care testing. Other duties as assigned.
