About The Position

The Staff Nurse Inpatient reflects Northwestern Medicine’s mission, vision, and values, adheres to its Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards. The nurse provides clinically competent professional nursing care to acutely ill patients through assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The role coordinates nursing care and interacts effectively with patients, significant others, and other health team members while maintaining ANA standards of professional nursing practice.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to collaborate with others.
Strong analytic abilities.
An Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) is acceptable with a commitment to obtain a BSN from an accredited program within three years of the first day of employment in a clinical nurse role.

Responsibilities

Collect and analyze data; identify expected outcomes; develop and implement individualized plans; coordinate care delivery; and evaluate progress toward outcomes.
Direct care and determine appropriate utilization of assistants involved in direct patient care.
Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and ancillary staff, and create a documented, outcome-focused plan that records communications and care-delivery decisions.
Participate in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects.
Evaluate and document patient responses to nursing interventions in the health record and individualize the plan of care based on evaluation findings.
Use the best available evidence, including research findings, to guide practice decisions.
