About The Position

The Medical Staff Affairs Coordinator executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, creative approaches to management of complex clinical and administrative health care issues. Their primary responsibilities include oversight and adherence of Medical Staff By-Laws to standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards for Medical Staff Affairs, medical staff support, performance measures and other process management for the Chief of Staff.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.

  • English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing ( ACEN ) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education ( CCNE )
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior leadership experience, in addition to knowledge of credentialing, and regulatory standards such as TJC would be preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, as well as effective communication skills to interact with medical staff, leadership, and regulatory bodies.

Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight and coordination with Credentialing & Privileging for FPPE, FPPE for Cause, and OPPE processes and tracking.
  • Collaborates with Credentialing and Privileging on privileges standardization processes and monitoring compliance with Service Chiefs.
  • In collaboration with Chief of Staff and Service Chiefs, coordinates By-Laws processes such as summary suspension, revocation and reduction of privileges.
  • Collaborates with HR to ensure reporting to state licensing boards and the National Practitioner Data Bank is completed as required.
  • Responsible for reporting required activities to the PSB and MEC.
  • Participates in surveys, administrative rounds, and other local activities as required.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in planning for the provision of nursing care and assisting with developing skills and judgement to utilize the nursing process in real situation.
  • Has global understanding of how their areas of responsibility supports the system's mission and vision.
  • Responsible and accountable for the planning, organization, and evaluation of effectiveness related to clinical, informatics, and/or administrative process changes, analyzing issues impeding change, developing corrective actions to expedite change, and assuring optimum utilization of available resources to maintain a climate conducive to quality patient care and employee satisfaction.
  • Functions as a formal and informal educator.
  • Serves as a liaison between internal and external customers, supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction.
