Exciting RN Opportunities at UPMC Shadyside! Graduate & Experienced RNs: Full-time positions available for nurses with more than 1 year of ICU experience and GNs who have worked as a PCT in an ICU. UPMC Shadyside is a 4x Magnet-designated teaching hospital and center of ongoing, cutting-edge research and education. A $15,000 sign-on bonus is available for experienced nurses with more than one year of experience. Be a part of a dynamic team at our 520-bed tertiary care facility with Magnet Status and serves as an academic teaching hospital, managing over 19,000 surgical cases each year. Patients on this unit require staff members that are highly motivated, encouraging, and driven to provide patients with the best possible experiences and outcomes. Our Registered Nurses work rotation shifts including weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor. The Medical ICU at UPMC Shadyside is a 20-bed critical care facility, the largest of Shadyside’s ICUs. We primarily care for critically ill oncology medical, cardiac, and post-stem cell transplant patients, however, due to our size, we frequently receive overflow from many other areas of the hospital. You can expect to see procedures such as tracheostomies and bronchoscopies right at the bedside, as well as the use of ventilators, vasopressors, and CRRT machines. We are very team-oriented here, which is important as the MICU can feel hectic at times; the MICU is an extremely rewarding environment for nurses who enjoy thinking on their feet to meet challenges and solve problems.

Requirements

At least 1 year of RN experience OR for Graduate Nurses prior NA/PCT experience in an ICU is required
An Associates Degree in Nursing, BSN, or MSN is required.
Demonstrate the knowledge and skills needed to provide care and interact with all ages of patients. Understand the principles of growth and development over the lifespan.
Establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with patients and their families, executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, and other departments.
Work productively and effectively in an environment with changing priorities that require specialized skills.
Think critically to analyze and problem-solve to deliver the best patient care. Use sound clinical judgment and problem-solving to deliver quality patient care when it matters most.
Understand, apply, and champion nursing best practices.
Ability to work productively and effectively within complex environments and handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - ACLS within 12 months of hire
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - CPR is required based on AHA standards that include both didactic and skills demonstration within 30 days of hire.
Registered Nurse (RN) or TPP (Temporary Practice Permit) - Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
