About The Position

WorkFit Medical Staffing is seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a travel assignment in various locations across NY, including Auburn, Buffalo, Rochester, Clifton Springs, Geneva, and Utica. This role focuses on providing high-quality, compassionate care to patients and their families admitted for medical conditions. The RN will assess patient needs, develop and implement care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provide direct care, evaluate patient progress, and coordinate care delivery. The position involves caring for adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations, with a strong emphasis on patient and family education for self-care beyond hospitalization, promoting comfort, and fostering a healing environment. Responsibilities include applying nursing knowledge and skills, assessing patient/family needs through active listening and data analysis, creating individualized care plans, promoting patient advocacy and rights, teaching and delegating tasks, ensuring compliance with infection prevention, motivating patients for home care, assessing learning styles, documenting education, evaluating the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, and engaging in self-improvement. The role requires making meaningful connections with patients and families, building helping, trusting, and caring relationships, and understanding the patient/family as the central focus of care. Demonstrates skill in medication administration. Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is reasonably anticipated, with tasks involving potential contact with blood, body fluids, and tissues.

Requirements

  • NYS RN Licensure Required
  • BLS, ACLS (AHA or RQI only), NIHSS Certifications Required
  • Minimum 1-3 years as a Registered Nurse in a Med Surge setting.

Responsibilities

  • Applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care.

  • Collaborates with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members to set goals and monitor patient progress.

  • Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
  • Teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks and interventions consistent with education, training, and scope of practice.
  • Understands personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies.
  • Motivates the patient/family by teaching them what is needed to continue care/healing at home.
  • Assesses the patient/family learning styles and structures sessions to maximize understanding.
  • Seeks “teachable” moments during care delivery to emphasize pertinent information.
  • Asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self-care process.
  • Provides tools and information to assist the patient’s family after discharge.
  • Documents the education provided and the patient/family response to the education.
  • Systematically evaluates quality and effectiveness of Nursing Practice and uses results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes.
  • Engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas for professional development.
  • Takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skill.
  • Uses logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
