About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Medical-Surgical unit, working full-time on night shifts, is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of total nursing care for assigned patients. The RN utilizes communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to create individualized care plans that address physiological, psychosocial, and cultural needs. This role involves supervising and delegating tasks to non-professional staff to ensure optimal patient care and requires competence in managing age-related patient needs. The RN works under the direction of leadership and a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive clinical care in alignment with Riverside Health System's standards and strategic goals.

Requirements

  • MSN, BSN, ADN, or nursing diploma required.
  • Licensed RN or board eligible by the State of Virginia or compact state required.
  • BLS Card required.

Nice To Haves

  • Specialty certification in field highly encouraged.
  • Experience preferred in an acute care setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient clinical and psychosocial needs according to standards of practice for the specialty or patient population.
  • Demonstrate nursing unit specific competencies and equipment training.
  • Partner with patients and families to develop, implement, and evaluate plans of care, treatments, and procedures.
  • Incorporate evidence-based standards of practice and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in care coordination.
  • Facilitate safe patient transitions to the next level of care.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput and ensure consistent, competent, and ethical care.
  • Focus on quality patient outcomes when addressing service needs.
  • Demonstrate understanding of diverse patient care populations and modify education methods accordingly.
  • Coordinate and deliver individualized patient education and discharge-specific education to family/caregivers, evaluating for comprehension and documenting.
  • Accurately complete all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Delegate and prioritize tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care and service excellence.
  • Recognize and respond to emergency situations.
  • Evaluate resources and support needed and use systems to ensure needs are met.
