About The Position

The Atlanta VA Medical Center (VAMC) is a Joint Commission-designated medical facility located in Decatur, Georgia, serving the healthcare needs of over 130,000 enrolled Veterans in northeast Georgia. As a level 1A tertiary care facility, it offers comprehensive medical, surgical, and geriatric specialty services, along with state-of-the-art diagnostic testing. The Medical Center is also a teaching hospital, collaborating with Emory University School of Medicine and Morehouse School of Medicine to provide advanced education and research opportunities. This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Medical/Surgical unit.

Requirements

• Completed courses for nursing from an accredited program approved by either the Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
• A current license in at least one state, territory, or commonwealth in the U.S. or the District of Columbia.
• Must have certification through the American Heart Association for Basic Life Support (BLS).
• A minimum of three years' direct patient care experience.

Responsibilities

• Providing professional nursing care principles, practices and procedures required to assess needs of patients.
• Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effects, and complications of their use; recognizing adverse signs and symptoms which are not always apparent and to reach promptly in emergency situations including the implementation of life-saving procedures.
• Provide counseling, guidance, and health instruction to patients.
• Identify disease entities in order to recognize complications and therapeutic interventions required.
• Provide professional nursing duties according to established professional nursing principles, practices, and procedures in a Med/Surg or PACU settings, assessing patient's physical, emotional, spiritual and socio-cultural needs.
• Demonstrate skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient serves.
• Provide pre-operative and post-operative nursing care to patients.
