About The Position

The 6300 Medical-Surgical Unit at TriHealth Bethesda North Hospital is a 41-bed unit specializing in the care of orthopedic, neurosurgery, and trauma patients. The diverse patient population includes individuals recovering from total joint replacements (knee, hip, shoulder), hip fractures, or spinal surgery. This fast-paced unit offers a supportive environment for role transition students, nursing students, and new graduates, focusing on teamwork, communication, and high-quality patient care. Nurses can refine skills in pre- and post-operative care, pain management, patient mobility, and neurovascular assessments. The team also handles orthopedic-specific interventions like splints, Buck’s traction, skeletal traction, and specialized durable medical equipment (DME). The unit is committed to professional development and is affiliated with organizations such as ANCC, ANA, the National Association of Orthopedic Nurses, and the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses. Nurses can advance expertise through certifications like MED-SURG, GERO-BC, ONC, Pain Certification, and CNRN. The 6300 unit is an ideal place to develop specialized clinical skills in a collaborative and compassionate environment that prioritizes patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or Diploma in Nursing
  • BLS/CPR (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers)
  • Registered Nurse
  • Knowledge, judgment, and skills derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences to meet complex health care needs at various stages of the life cycle
  • RNs with more than 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time acute care experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document initial and ongoing patient/family assessments.
  • Develop, communicate, and update individualized plans of care, including discharge planning.
  • Provide safe, patient-centered care that supports autonomy, dignity, and diversity.
  • Recognize and respond to emergencies and take appropriate clinical action.
  • Carry out physician orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Complete assigned care and documentation within required timeframes.
  • Administer medications/treatments safely and perform technical skills per policy.
  • Evaluate patient responses and revise the plan of care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks appropriately to other team members.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and support training/education of staff and students.
  • Maintain current clinical knowledge and adhere to organizational and departmental standards.
  • Function in relief charge/resource roles as requested.
