The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of patients. The staff RN utilizes the nursing process by use of technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice and coordination of care with other health team members. The Mother Baby Unit at Utah Valley Hospital is a 36-bed unit in Provo, Utah. Patient population includes low and high-risk postpartum patients, newborns 35 weeks and greater, and occasional GYN surgeries. Nurses work with patient care technicians to care for 3-4 couplets, depending on acuity and risk. Certified lactation specialists are available for consults, questions, and assistance.
