The Maternal Lactation Registered Nurse supports patients’ individualized feeding goals throughout the inpatient stay, promoting optimal breastfeeding initiation, dose, and duration following discharge. This role proactively protects and advocates for breastfeeding during critical postpartum periods through education, support, and evidence‑based practice. Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies is located on the downtown Orlando Health campus and provides specialized care for women's health, including gynecological services, minimally invasive surgeries, general obstetrics, and high-risk pregnancies and births. The hospital welcomes nearly 14,000 babies annually and features 142 beds in its neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), making it one of the largest NICUs in the nation. It is the first and only hospital in Florida to offer in utero surgery to repair spina bifida.
