About The Position

Full-time day shift RN/LPN position in Long Term Care - 12 hour shifts (5:30am-6pm). Every other weekend, every other holiday. Shift differential of $2.50 for weekends. Full-time benefits include: Health, Vision, Dental, Life Insurance, Long Term Disability. PTO and sick time accrual begin on the first day of Employment. Title: RN/LPN Department: LTC PRIMARY FUNCTION AND RELATIONSHIP TO TOTAL ORGANIZATION: Provides direct nursing care for individual residents with common, well-defined nursing diagnosis. Works under the supervision of an R.N. Organizes those aspects of nursing care for which she/he is responsible for. Reports to: Director of Nursing-LTC Supervises: Assigns tasks and directs activities of nursing assistants working in LTC unit.

Requirements

  • A graduate of an approved RN or LPN program.
  • Must have current license to practice in State of Iowa.
  • Successful completion of BCLS within 3 months of employment
  • Requires constant mental alertness and ability to evaluate and detect changes in patient’s condition.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions in performing work.
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
  • Must have the physical capabilities of initiating CPR.

Nice To Haves

  • Nursing Home experience preferred.
  • Following a formal orientation, proficiency in the assigned clinical area is expected within 3 months.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers data relative to health status of the resident reports to physician and documents appropriately.
  • Renders direct patient care consistent with the level of nursing skills.
  • Uses established channels of communication to implement an effective, health care plan.
  • Organizes the delivery of standard nursing care in order to use time and resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Works with other health care personnel within the organizational structure to manage patient care.
  • Participates in the medical plan of care to promote an integrated health care plan.
  • Evaluates patient responses to nursing interventions and documents appropriately.
  • Maintains accountability for own care and care delegated to others to assure adherence to ethical and legal standards.
  • Plans, promotes and participates in patient education and rehabilitation.
  • Provides general nursing care to patients. Administers prescribed medication and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Participates in non-direct patient care activities including educational activities, quality improvement nursing committees and other related activities.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of changes in patient condition and of care rendered.
  • Demonstrates willingness to support staffing and scheduling needs.
  • Complies with hospital and nursing service policies.
  • Performs functions other than described above due to extenuating circumstances.
  • Maintains a courteous and professional manner in dealing with patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers, as applicable.
  • Shows a positive attitude toward work schedules, department and hospital changes, assignments and other personnel.
  • Presents professional appearance in dress and grooming, complies with departmental dress requirements and wears hospital identification badge.
  • Conforms to hospital policy regarding use of sick time, personal days, notification of absence of tardiness.
  • Is cost effective in utilization in time, equipment and supplies.
  • Willingly cooperates with co-workers and other departments.
