About The Position

The Montana Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking dedicated professionals to join the Montana Women's Prison (MWP) team in Billings, MT. MWP houses over 200 inmates, and this role is crucial in supporting their care and rehabilitation, aiming to reduce recidivism and improve long-term outcomes. The facility offers a range of programs, including a medical facility, educational opportunities, and work programs. Requirements

  • Associate degree in Nursing.
  • Licensed to practice as an LPN or RN in the State of Montana.
  • Must have and maintain sufficient strength, agility and endurance to perform during physical, mental, and emotional situations encountered on the job without compromising their health and well-being.
  • Must be able to hear clearly on a telephone and in direct contact with patients and coworkers.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Successful applicants will be subject to: Criminal history check, Child/patient/offender abuse registries, Reference checks.

Responsibilities

  • Play a vital role in the medical management of over 200+ inmates within the infirmary unit.
  • Perform initial health assessments.
  • Provide triage services.
  • Conduct sick call services.
  • Administer medications.
  • Offer mental health support.
  • Provide urgent and emergent care.
  • Manage chronic diseases.
  • Implement infection control measures.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in discharge and transition planning.
  • Follow proper body mechanics and procedures for lifting/moving patients.
  • Hear clearly on a telephone and in direct contact with patients and coworkers.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift or move 50 lbs.
  • Maintain sufficient strength, agility, and endurance to perform during physical, mental, and emotional situations encountered on the job without compromising health and well-being.
