About The Position

This role is considered the minimum role for all nurses who have greater than 12 months experience. Provides and coordinates independent care to patients within a clinical specialty as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team. The Registered Nurse provides independent care to the unit specific patient population, serves as a clinical resource for others, utilizes and integrates evidence into practice, and functions effectively in roles specific to the unit. They are accountable to patients and families for the processes and outcomes of care during an episode of care, accountable to peers for the advancement of group practice on the unit, and to the nurse manager for the totality of work performance. The nurse serves as an effective primary coordinating nurse, collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care addressing patient/family needs, and serves as a clinical resource for others. Additionally, the role involves assisting in team development and evaluation of Patient and Family Centered Care, suggesting methods for improvement, and participating in data collection related to outcomes such as handoffs and medication safety. The nurse participates in the implementation of Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI) and contributes to Performance Improvement, Evidence Based Practice, or research at the unit level. They support charge nurse decisions, perform charge nurse roles as needed, and assist in the development of clinical practice protocols and standards for the unit. The nurse also orients Clinical Nurse I to the unit level decision making structure and councils, and serves as a preceptor, coach, and mentor to new nurses and students, contributing to ancillary personnel skills and development.

Requirements

• Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required.
• Minimum two years of nursing experience in Labor & Delivery or acute or critical care units.
• Solid knowledge and clinical skills.
• Bachelors of Science degree in nursing (Preferred) or Associates Degree in Nursing required.
• Current BLS and ACLS certification required.

• Complies with standards and participates with unit level activities for regulatory compliance.
• Supports charge nurse decisions; performs charge role for assigned shifts as needed.
• Assists in the development of clinical practice protocols and standards for unit.
• Paiticipates in unit based process activities: Performance Improvement, Professional Development, Clinical Practice, Teamwork, etc.; assists in development of action plans and supports implementation.
• Orients Clinical Nurse I to unit level decision making structure and councils.
• Serves as preceptor, coach, mentor to new nurses and students.
• Contributes to ancillary personnel skills and development, attends educational offerings and in-services independently
