About The Position

The Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse at Winchester Hospital provides comprehensive, compassionate care throughout the labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum experience. This role involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to support safe, family-centered births and respond to routine and high-risk situations. The position offers opportunities to practice across the full spectrum of L&D care, including triage, labor support, and circulating in the OR, with potential for cross-training. Nurses are crucial in maintaining exceptional patient outcomes, upholding quality standards, and delivering individualized care in a supportive, fast-paced environment. Requirements

  • Graduate of a state approved and/or accredited RN program required
  • BSN or obtain BSN within 5 years of hire required
  • Basic computer knowledge required
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills required
  • Massachusetts Registered Nurse License required
  • Basic Life Support certification required
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required for Labor & Delivery nurses

Nice To Haves

  • BSN upon hire preferred
  • Work experience in unit specific specialty preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintains current license, life support certification, and tuberculosis testing.

  • Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care: Assesses the patient, develops individualized plan of care, evaluates and changes care plan, implements plan of care, and directs licensed and unlicensed personnel.
  • Utilizes the results of evidence-based research to improve clinical outcomes.
  • Administers medications and performs treatments as ordered.
  • Provides patient/family education to affect desired clinical outcomes.
  • Observes and/or makes periodic rounds on assigned patients independently, with physicians, and other members of the health care team.
  • Reports pertinent patient assessment data, plan of care and response to all appropriate members of the health care team.
  • Documents nursing process and other pertinent patient/family information completely and accurately.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary patient care conferences.
  • Communicates with other health care team members to resolve operational problems, patient satisfaction and clinical initiatives.
  • Completes competency for preceptor and/or charge nurse role at the direction/discretion of the nurse manager.
  • Completes competencies for unit specific responsibilities.
  • Takes on-call as needed.
  • Participates in mandatory training requirements, continuing education/in-services, staff meetings, performance improvement initiatives, and orientation of new staff, students and/or volunteers.
  • Participation in community activities is encouraged.
