About The Position

Sentara is hiring an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for the Labor & Delivery Unit at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. A sign-on bonus of up to $10,000 is offered for qualified candidates. This is a part-time, night shift position. The Family Maternity Center is a busy, well-established unit with 16 labor rooms, 5 dedicated triage rooms, and 2 obstetric ORs. The unit averages approximately 3,300 deliveries each year and cared for around 4,000 triage patients in 2025, making it the second-highest delivering hospital in the system. The unit partners with four private OB practices and has its own Sentara midwifery team available 24/7. Staff self-schedule on a 6-week schedule, work every 3rd weekend, and have two call shifts per schedule. Switches are allowed with advance planning, and additional call opportunities are often available. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching and health promotion, and evaluation. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.

Requirements

  • RN Degree REQUIRED
  • Virginia RN or Compact Multi-State License REQUIRED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire
  • NRP within 6 months of hire
  • PALS within 6 months of hire

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or MSN preferred
  • Previous Labor & Delivery experience STRONGLY PREFERRED
  • Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire
  • Emergency Care - ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire
  • Oncology Care ONS/ONCC or Sentara approved course Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider Card within 6 months of hire
  • Women's Care - Perinatal departments; NRP within 6 months of hire
  • Inpatient Pediatrics. PALS within 6 months of hire

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
  • Adhere to the standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
  • Adhere to the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
  • Possess clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
