About The Position

Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health is the first new full-service hospital in Washington, DC in more than 20 years, integrating clinical care with existing community providers, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC’s), The George Washington University Hospital, and our Urgent Care Center in Ward 8. This integrated delivery system is a robust network of care for all District residents, but more importantly, it ensures that residents of Wards 7 and 8 have access to high quality care in their community. This full-service hospital includes 136 beds (with the ability to expand to 184 beds), a verified trauma center, adult and pediatric emergency departments, maternal health and newborn delivery, an ambulatory pavilion for clinic visits and other outpatient services, a 500-car garage, and a helipad for emergency transport. We are seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (PRN-Nights). The Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to obstetric patients throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and the immediate postpartum period. The RN collaborates with physicians, midwives, neonatal teams, and interdisciplinary staff to ensure safe, compassionate, and family-centered care for both mother and newborn. This role is responsible for assessing patient conditions, monitoring fetal wellbeing, administering medications, supporting emergency interventions, and educating patients and families during the childbirth experience.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • DC RN License required.
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery nursing experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with electronic fetal monitoring and obstetric emergency response preferred.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for laboring and postpartum patients.
  • Monitor maternal and fetal status using electronic fetal monitoring equipment and recognize changes requiring intervention.
  • Assist physicians and midwives during labor, vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, and obstetric emergencies.
  • Administer medications, IV therapy, blood products, and treatments in accordance with physician orders and hospital policy.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding labor progression, pain management, breastfeeding, newborn care, and postpartum recovery.
  • Support patients through labor with emotional support, coaching, and advocacy.
  • Collaborate with neonatal and interdisciplinary care teams to coordinate patient care and ensure positive outcomes.
  • Respond effectively to obstetric emergencies including hemorrhage, fetal distress, preeclampsia, and emergency cesarean deliveries.
  • Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, outcomes, and education in the electronic medical record.
  • Maintain compliance with infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives, staff meetings, and continuing education activities.
