The Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery works in a team-based labor and delivery unit caring for neonates, infants, and adults. The role involves labor and vaginal deliveries, C-sections, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension, and D&C. Nurses perform their own vital sign and blood glucose checks. The unit has 16 L&D beds with an average daily census of 15 and a six-bed L&D triage area. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:1–2. This is a travel assignment. Nurses may float within the facility and their scope of practice as needed. The assignment includes three weekend shifts per contract and two call shifts every six weeks. Holiday work is required according to the assignment period: one major holiday if one falls during the assignment, both if two fall during it, or two if three fall during it. Scrubs are provided by the facility. Full compliance is required to start on time; otherwise, the start may be pushed back two weeks because orientation is biweekly. Non-billable orientation hours depend on contract length.
