About The Position

Public Health Seattle-King County is accepting applications for Registered Nurse (RN) correctional health specialty. Our nurses provide skilled, medically needed health care to adults in custody at the King County Jails. This is an opportunity to provide outstanding health care to a diverse and underserved population. Requirements

  • Current Washington State Registered Nurse license in good standing.
  • Associate preparation in nursing science or higher-level nursing degree of BSN, MSN, DNP and or PhD from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Must pass a security clearance, background check, pre-employment physical and credentialing.
  • BLS-CPR for healthcare providers
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License or ability to travel to various sites within Seattle-King County.
  • Employees are required to protect the privacy and security of protected health information as defined in State and Federal Law.
  • Candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with on-going work.
  • Employees are required to adhere to OSHA/WISHA guidelines including but not limited to completing their mandatory trainings on time and obtaining required immunizations.
  • Regular and reliable attendance, effective communication skills, and development of effective working relationships are requirements of all Public Health positions.
  • The selected candidate must be able to provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR.
  • The selected candidate must be able to pass a thorough background investigation, but findings may not necessarily disqualify an applicant for employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care based upon practice guidelines, community standards of care, and Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Provide nursing assessments and interventions including medical, dental and psychiatric screening.
  • Monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response.
  • Evaluate, monitor and treat drug and alcohol withdrawal.
  • Carry out prescribed treatments, wound care.
  • Administers medications and vaccinations.
  • Provide mental health services, as a member of an interdisciplinary team, to patients.
  • Respond to emergencies throughout the facility; injury and illness; performs CPR when needed.
  • Provide health education.
  • Other duties as assigned.
