About The Position

4South is a 63-bed unit specializing in Oncology, Cellular Therapy, and Hospice care. It provides quality care to patients with various medical diagnoses including pneumonia, tuberculosis, sepsis, sickle cell anemia, cancer, and palliative care needs. The unit utilizes an interdisciplinary approach for patient care planning, focusing on pain management, medication administration, self-care, nutrition, and education. Special procedures include chemotherapy administration and monitoring, pain management, metabolic support, patient and caregiver education, and palliative care. The team also cares for patients undergoing chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation, as well as those with leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma undergoing stem cell/bone marrow transplantation (BMT). Additionally, the unit manages medical and telemetry patients and nurses are trained to administer medications for research protocols. As a Registered Nurse IV on 4South, you will be responsible and accountable for the supervision and application of the nursing process throughout patient care delivery. This role involves acting as an expert clinician with a high standard of knowledge and expertise in a specialty and general nursing. You will consistently demonstrate excellence in nursing care delivery, staff education, research, and collaboration. The position requires managing complex and unpredictable patient care situations, serving as a nursing leader and resource to staff, the unit, the organization, and the community to advance nursing. Experience with project oversight, quality improvement work, or unit-based initiatives is expected, along with the ability to apply clinical knowledge for time and cost savings. You will demonstrate knowledge of regulatory requirements for patient assignments, task delegation, documentation, and overseeing the care delivery team. Leadership is demonstrated through initiative, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. Experience leading or supporting timely discharges, patient throughput, admissions, transfers, and overall hospital flow is also required, as is experience in precepting, coaching, mentoring, and developing staff.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN or higher required.
Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license required upon hire.
Current American Red Cross or American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required upon hire.
ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Certification preferred; required within six months of hire.
National Specialty Certification (i.e. OCN,TCTCN).
Minimum of 5 years acute RN experience including 3 years experience in complex cellular therapy/hematology-oncology patient population required.
Meets specialty specific clinical competencies for assigned area.
Has maintained satisfactory Clinical Nurse III status for a minimum of one (1) year.
Have an overall performance evaluation of “Strongly Meets” or higher.
Meets clinical criteria and protocol of Clinical Nurse IV.
Demonstrate working knowledge of applicable standards of practice.
Demonstrate commitment to providing excellent customer service and the ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients, families, and healthcare colleagues.
