About The Position
We are seeking one experienced Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse to provide procedural and perioperative care at the NIH Clinical Center. This is a 13-week contract assignment with the possibility of a long-term or permanent full-time opportunity based on performance and continued staffing needs. Schedule Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Participation in the 24-hour on-call rotation Weekday, weekend, and holiday on-call coverage required.
Requirements
- Active, valid, and unrestricted RN license issued by at least one U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth
- Associate degree, nursing diploma, or bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution
- Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN
- At least two years of current interventional radiology nursing experience
- Current Basic Life Support certification
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification
- Demonstrated current competency in procedural nursing and moderate sedation
- Effective English communication skills
- Computer literacy and proficiency with electronic clinical documentation
- U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident/Green Card status

Responsibilities
- Assess patients before, during, and after interventional radiology procedures
- Review patient history, laboratory results, allergies, medications, consent, and procedural readiness
- Prepare patients, procedure rooms, equipment, medications, and supplies
- Assist physicians and the procedural team during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
- Administer and monitor moderate sedation when qualified, authorized, and assigned
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythm, oxygenation, ventilation, vital signs, pain, and level of consciousness
- Recognize complications and initiate appropriate emergency interventions
- Administer medications, fluids, blood products, and treatments as ordered and within the RN’s authorized scope of practice
- Provide vascular-access, biopsy-site, drain, and catheter-related care
- Follow radiation-safety, infection-control, sterile-technique, and patient-safety requirements
- Provide pre-procedure and discharge education to patients and families
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation
- Collaborate with radiologists, technologists, anesthesia personnel, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
- Respond within the facility’s required timeframe while assigned to on-call coverage
- Participate in required orientation, training, and competency activities
