Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Nursery (BCH-Mission Bay)
About The Position
The Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) is a regional tertiary center and one of the first neonatal intensive care units in the world. It cares for extremely premature infants, as well as infants with congenital anomalies requiring evaluation and surgical interventions. The ICN also features the first Neuro Intensive care unit for newborns, established in 2008. The unit is recognized for its innovation in neonatology and fetal treatment, with neonatologists, neurologists, radiologists, and nurses collaborating to improve neurodevelopmental outcomes in high-risk infants. The ICN provides state-of-the-art care for infants with neurological, gastrointestinal, renal, skeletal, cardiac, and respiratory diseases, and is recognized as an ECMO Center of Excellence, one of the few in Northern California to provide ECMO. Staff nurses are integral to the ICN, providing comprehensive, compassionate, and specialized care to fragile infants and their families. They also participate in unit-level committees, contributing to the unit's operation and function.
Requirements
- Minimum two (2) years of recent clinical RN experience in a level III Intensive Care Nursery with a surgical patient population
- Proficiency in providing care for the extreme low birth weight infants and neonates with congenital anomalies such as Pre-Operative Congenital Heart Disease
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
- Current healthcare provider CPR certification
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification

Responsibilities
- Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care.
- Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams.
- Carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required.
- Performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision.
- Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.
- Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors.
- Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act.
- Accountable to the NURSE SVC SUPV 2 for overall work performance.
