About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Registered Nurse for Inpatient Virtual Support at the Crystal Terrace location. This role virtually supports a variety of medical, cardiac, neuro, and stepdown patients across multiple inpatient units. The virtual nurse (vRN) will work in a pod with other vRNs, utilizing a software program to connect with patients via the television in their rooms. The primary focus is on improving patient safety through quality discharges and rounding, and to provide support to bedside nurses. Requirements

  • Registered Nurse Licensure
  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Graduate of an approved discipline specific program
  • Excellent communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • At least 3 years of nursing experience
  • ICU experience preferred
  • Any type of nursing certification
  • Good with multiple technology platforms

Responsibilities

  • Applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning.
  • Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team.
  • Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to the Board of Nursing standards.
  • Virtually supports inpatient units from our Crystal Terrace location.
  • Calls into the patient’s room through the television via a software program.
  • Completes admission and discharge processes.
  • Conducts safety rounds.
  • Performs dual medication verification/sign-off.
  • Mentors patients.
  • Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
  • Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
  • Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.
  • Anticipates resource needs, identifies distinct tasks, sets priorities, schedules activities, meets deadlines, and organizes work within areas of direct responsibility.
