Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited professional school of nursing.
  • Current Louisiana Nursing License.
  • CPR verification.
  • Meets specific departmental criteria and/or certifications.
  • Basic nursing skills.
  • Proficient communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Astute observational and assessment skills.
  • Utilization of proper body mechanics.
  • Proper operation of infusion pumps, Dinamaps, and fax machines.
  • Knowledge and utilization of hospital computer system.

Nice To Haves

  • Enrollment in a BSN program within the first year of hire and completion within 3 years.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care based on LCMC Health standards and policies.
  • Delegates tasks to professional and non-professional personnel involved in patient care.
  • Facilitates and maintains a safe environment for patients and others, with a specialty in wound care treatment and prevention.
  • Performs priority technical procedures safely, effectively, efficiently, and legally.
  • Actively promotes and supports LCMC Health’s performance improvement initiatives, including infection control, maintaining the environment of care, and participating in quality improvement activities.
  • Utilizes the nursing process to deliver patient care, organizing, prioritizing, and coordinating all aspects of care for assigned patients.
  • Supervises the activities of other unit personnel providing care to assigned patients.
  • Communicates essential information, data, and significant events to appropriate persons, including patient condition, changes in condition, lab/diagnostic data, intake/output, nutrition needs, assessment findings, shift reports, and patient/family/physician complaints.
  • Keeps patients informed and provides updates as appropriate, contributing positively to patient throughput.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to identify actions to improve patient care and education.
  • Seeks supervision, consultation, and assistance when unable to perform effectively or safely independently.
  • Delegates safely and appropriately to other team members.
  • Performs proper hand-off to ensure continuity of care and communicates problems.
  • Advises supervisor of current or anticipated problems and completes assignments in a timely fashion.
  • Uses age-appropriate principles of learning and initiates, consults, and collaborates with patient education resources.
  • Works closely with physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and social workers to meet patient/family educational needs.
  • Continuously displays a positive attitude that contributes to patient satisfaction and utilizes the service recovery process.
  • Recognizes customer needs and begins to solve problems as they arise.
  • Contributes to the team by providing assistance to others without being asked.
  • Maintains current knowledge in nursing practice.
  • Regularly participates in activities to maintain and expand nursing knowledge in the area of practice.
  • Readily assists others and works in designated alternative areas when needed.
