The pediatric inpatient post-surgical unit, also known as Explorer, is a dynamic and fast-paced, 35-bed unit, specializing in post-surgical care for patients across various specialties including orthopedics, general surgery, cardiac, and neurology. With centralized monitoring, our dedicated staff ensures high-quality care for every patient, offering an excellent opportunity for nurses to acquire diverse skills due to the rapid turnover and patient variety. The unit also plays a crucial role in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), with 12 beds – 6 for seizure monitoring and 6 for surgical overflow cases. Our EMU rooms are equipped with specialty equipment to monitor and visualize seizure activity, leading to improved treatment and better patient outcomes. Explorer takes pride in our team-focused culture, celebrated by receiving the 2021 Team Excellence award for delivering top-notch care. Thirty percent of our nurses are nationally certified displaying our commitment to professional development and maintaining a high standard of care. Additionally, strive to be fully compliant with regulatory requirements daily. The Registered Nurse (RN) is accountable for providing competent nursing care. Responsible for coordination of the patient's plan of care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing interventions that lead to established outcomes. This position practices under the direction of the designated nurse executive, within the scope of the Nursing Practice Act, and in accordance with Valley Children's Hospital policies.
