Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college of nursing required OR obtained within 5 years from date of hire for nurses with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Six months experience on floor prior to administering chemotherapy required.
  • Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multistate license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients, family members, hospital personnel, and co-workers.
  • Must be able to work independently with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
  • Ability to learn, retain, and utilize computer skills that are required for department and hospital information system.

Nice To Haves

  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate Course required within 1 year of hire.
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient, ensuring understanding and comfort level of treatment.
  • Perform initial and ongoing assessments to determine patient's nursing care needs, including data from patient/significant other(s).
  • Develop, review, revise, and individualize the plan of care to address patient's nursing care needs for optimum patient care outcomes.
  • Implement interventions consistent with the established plan of care in a safe and appropriate manner, following nursing protocols and standards of care.
  • Evaluate patient care to determine response to care/interventions for optimal patient outcome, monitoring outcomes and documenting patient response.
  • Perform technical skills competently and independently to assure patient safety, learning new skills and equipment within the unit's specifications and timeframe.
  • Maintain professional behavior in attitude, demeanor, and interactions to achieve the organization's mission, communicating effectively to solve problems.
  • Initiate action to correct, prevent, and/or minimize risks to the patient, family, or hospital employees.
  • Review, delegate, and evaluate plans for appropriate utilization of staff at all levels of practice.
  • Fiscally accountable and professionally responsible for human and other resources.
  • Charge accurately for the use of supplies and equipment according to policy.
