About The Position

Nebraska Methodist Health System is seeking a Registered Nurse for their Imaging CT Scan department. This is a PRN/Casual position for day shifts, meaning work is on an as-needed basis. Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college of nursing required OR obtained within 5 years from date of hire for nurses with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multistate license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardio Life Support (ACLS).
  • CT Scan and MRI: 1-3 years’ experience in direct patient care and proficient in intravenous (IV) start skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients, family members, hospital personnel, and co-workers.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
  • Ability to learn, retain, and utilize computer skills that are required for department and hospital information system.

Nice To Haves

  • For Critical Care: National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification training required by the completion of orientation.
  • Certification in area of specialty from National Certification Corporation (NCC) within 1 year of eligibility.
  • Surgery Main and Surgery Outpatient HW: Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR).
  • Cardiac Unit: Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) or Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN).
  • Cardiovascular Surgery: Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) or Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN).
  • Progressive Care Unit 4: Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) or Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN).
  • Surgery GI Lab: Certified Gastroenterology Registered Nurse (CGRN).
  • Cath Lab: Cardiovascular Registered Nurse (CV.BC) within 3 years of employment.
  • Critical Care: Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN).

Responsibilities

  • Provide appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient, ensuring understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the Population Specific Criteria.
  • Perform an initial and ongoing assessment to determine the assigned patient's ongoing nursing care needs, including data from the patient/significant other(s) as appropriate. Prioritize data collection according to patient's immediate needs and use assessment findings in discharge planning.
  • Develop/review/revise and individualize the plan of care to address the patient's nursing care needs for optimum patient care outcomes, collaborating with providers and other clinical disciplines as appropriate. Provide teaching specific to the patient's health care problem.
  • Implement interventions that are consistent with the established plan of care in a safe and appropriate manner, following nursing protocols and standards of care.
  • Evaluate patient care to determine response to care/interventions for optimal patient outcome, monitoring outcomes and documenting patient response. Evaluate the patient's capabilities and/or limitations related to nursing and medical interventions and their ability to manage care needs after dismissal.
  • Perform technical skills competently and independently to assure patient safety, including learning new skills and equipment within the area's specifications and time frame. Demonstrate correct and safe technique in the use of equipment.
  • Maintain professional behavior in attitude, demeanor, and interactions to achieve the organization's mission. Communicate effectively to solve problems, and maintain a professional appearance, behavior, and work environment.
  • Initiate action to correct, prevent, and/or minimize risks to the patient, family, or hospital employees. Complete appropriate report forms for any risk and communicate to appropriate personnel regarding unresolved issues.
  • Review, delegate, and evaluate plans for appropriate utilization of staff at all levels of practice in accordance with the provision of the state's Nurse Practice Act and the Professional Standards of Practice.
  • Fiscally accountable and professionally responsible for human and other resources. Charge accurately for use of supplies and equipment according to policy.
  • Safely administer medications, checking patient allergies, administering medications safely and correctly, obtaining, preparing and administering IVs and blood products, and observing and documenting patient response to medications.
