About The Position

This position is at a 16-bed state-of-the-art Secure Residential Facility in Essex, Vermont, dedicated to the person-centered treatment of adults with severe mental illness. The facility is over 17,000 square feet and includes a separate full-size gymnasium. The role is primarily responsible for monitoring and providing support for a safe and therapeutic environment facility-wide during assigned shifts. Incumbents will serve as designated charge nurses, supervising professional and paraprofessional nursing staff, providing guidance for minor discipline issues and employee environmental concerns, and maintaining effective working relationships. They will also provide feedback, ensure staff accountability for care and documentation to meet standards, and advocate for necessary resources. The position supports the Nurse Manager with performance evaluations and participates in practice development and implementation. Additionally, it assists the Nurse Educator and Assistant Director of Clinical Services in facilitating ongoing competencies and trainings with nursing staff.

Requirements

  • Possession of (or eligible for) licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Vermont OR eligible to practice in the state of Vermont via a multi-state license.
  • Three (3) years or more of professional nursing experience in the nursing specialty.
  • Must maintain Vermont licensure or multi-state license as a Registered Nurse as a condition of employment.
  • Must pass a fingerprint supported background investigation.
  • Must agree to background investigation and fingerprinting to be eligible for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and providing support for a safe and therapeutic environment facility-wide during assigned shift.
  • Fulfilling the duties of the charge nurse role, including supervising professional and paraprofessional nursing staff.
  • Providing guidance for resolution of minor discipline issues, employee environmental concerns, and maintaining effective employee working relationships.
  • Providing feedback and ensuring staff accountability for all aspects of care, including documentation to meet facility and regulatory standards.
  • Advocating for resources necessary for resident care or those necessary to support the work of the staff.
  • Supporting the Nurse Manager with performance evaluations.
  • Participating in the development and implementation of practices within the facility.
  • Assisting the Nurse Educator and Assistant Director of Clinical Services in facilitating ongoing competencies/trainings with nursing staff.
