About The Position

As a GI Lab Procedure RN, you will provide specialized nursing care to patients undergoing gastrointestinal diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including endoscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP, EUS, and other GI interventions. You will be responsible for patient assessment, preparation, monitoring, procedural assistance, while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and compliance with regulatory and infection prevention standards. The Registered Nurse, Procedural provides individualized and specialized nursing care to patients in accordance with physician orders, recognized nursing practices, California nursing regulations, and organizational policies and procedures. The RN functions collaboratively with physicians, anesthesia providers, technicians, and interdisciplinary staff while demonstrating professionalism, critical thinking, and sound clinical judgment.

  • Demonstrating professionalism, critical thinking, and sound clinical judgment
  • Reviewing medical history, medications, laboratory results, and procedural requirements
  • Monitoring patients receiving moderate sedation or anesthesia and responding to changes in patient condition
  • Assisting physicians during GI procedures
  • Maintaining accurate and complete medical records and assisting with procedure documentation and logs
  • Communicating pertinent information to physicians, patients, families, and co-workers
  • Investigating and intervening in problem situations
  • Following Standard Precautions and utilizing personal protective equipment
  • Maintaining sterility, cleanliness, and readiness of procedure rooms
  • Troubleshooting and testing of endoscopy and GI procedural equipment
  • Maintaining adequate inventories of supplies, medications, scopes, and procedural equipment
  • Participating in specimen collection, labeling, handling, and documentation
  • Supporting quality improvement initiatives, patient safety goals, and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Escalating situations beyond capability or job responsibilities
  • Reporting errors or safety concerns promptly
  • May be cross-trained to provide pre-operative nursing care

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and completes assessments of patient needs to provide supportive care before, during, and after GI procedures.
  • Prepares patients for GI procedures by reviewing medical history, medications, laboratory results, and procedural requirements.
  • Monitors patients receiving moderate sedation or anesthesia and recognizes and responds appropriately to changes in patient condition.
  • Assists physicians during GI procedures, including endoscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP, EUS, motility studies, and other advanced GI interventions.
  • Maintains accurate and complete medical records and assists with procedure documentation and logs.
  • Clearly and accurately communicates pertinent information to physicians, patients, families, and co-workers.
  • Investigates and intervenes in problem situations, reporting information to leadership as appropriate and providing complete and accurate documentation.
  • Follows Standard Precautions and utilizes personal protective equipment in accordance with infection prevention guidelines.
  • Responsible for maintaining the sterility, cleanliness, and readiness of procedure rooms, including setup, troubleshooting, and testing of endoscopy and GI procedural equipment.
  • Assists in maintaining adequate inventories of supplies, medications, scopes, and procedural equipment.
  • Participates in specimen collection, labeling, handling, and documentation according to established protocols.
  • Supports quality improvement initiatives, patient safety goals, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Escalates situations beyond capability or job responsibilities to appropriate personnel and reports errors or safety concerns promptly.
  • May be cross-trained to provide pre-operative nursing care. Patients may require pre-procedure nursing care prior to room setup and procedural support.
