About The Position

The Registered Nurse II works in the Comprehensive Transplant Center clinic as a primary intake nurse in an ambulatory setting. The role supports transplant patients through clinical assessment, treatment, education, and implementation of individualized care plans. The nurse may also be trained in the infusion center.

Requirements

• Minimum associate degree or college diploma.
• For external hires, a minimum of one year of acute-care experience in the nurse’s specialty.
• California State RN License upon hire.
• BLS Certification upon hire, as required by the specialty unit.
• Other competencies required by the specialty unit, such as ACLS, PALS, or fetal heart monitoring.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a state-accredited program preferred.
• Proficient IV skills are a plus.
• Any ANCC Specialty Certification is preferred and strongly recommended after two years in the specialty.

Responsibilities

• Conduct patient intake and assessments, including vital signs, height and weight, EKGs, six-minute walk tests, medication reviews, and appropriate screening.
• Provide care and patient education on disease prevention and restorative measures.
• Train in the infusion center; proficient IV skills are a plus.
• Administer medications and therapeutic agents needed to implement treatment, disease-prevention, or rehabilitative care plans.
• Perform skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy, and initiation of peripheral venous access.
• Plan and implement care based on observations; provide appropriate reporting, referrals, and care in accordance with standardized procedures; initiate emergency procedures when indicated.
• Provide care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Identify and assess patient safety concerns related to age and developmental considerations, and intervene to provide a safe environment.
