About The Position

This Registered Nurse position contributes to Cardinal Health Nursing by delivering safe and efficient quality nursing care. The role involves examining patients and administering prescribed medications to facilitate healing and increase comfort. This position requires a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) who delivers direct patient care, collaborating closely with physicians and other healthcare providers to care for patients, including those diagnosed with cancer. The location is cCARE Cancer Center: Fresno, 7130 North Millbrook Avenue, Fresno, CA 93720. The schedule is one 8-hour shift, 8 am-4:30 pm, weekdays, with no consistent day to work.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited school of nursing with a diploma, Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
  • Passed the NCLEX_RN
  • Licensed by the state.
  • 2-4 years of experience
  • BLS required
  • Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certificate required or obtain within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • preferred Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Infusion room experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Established knowledge regarding Hematology/Oncology Diagnosis, disease processes, and psychosocial effects these diagnosis can have on the patient as a whole.
  • Has an established understanding of specific labs used to determine disease process and treatment process for Hematology/Oncology patient.
  • Able to determine when labs are appropriate for treatment.
  • Handles emergency situations with skill and accuracy, while maintaining a calm demeanor.
  • Effectively performs head-to-toe assessments on all patients and reassessments prior to chemotherapy or on sick calls.
  • Ensures all aspects of patient care are performed in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical / health care errors.
  • Strictly adheres to the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors, following Oncology guidelines.
  • Ability to use math equations appropriately to check doses of chemotherapy medications based on weight changes of patients.
  • Ability to follow ONS guidelines on PPE and guidelines set forth of USP 800 safety, to reduce exposure risks.
  • Formulates an effective teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning.
  • Provides emotional support and includes family as appropriate.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
  • Effectively identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious / spiritual needs of patients and family.
  • Communicates effectively with social services regarding patient’s needs.
  • Accurately interprets data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient.
  • Provides an interdisciplinary approach to patient care by effectively consulting with other health team members / departments.
  • Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Effectively orients new employees including new nurses, delegates appropriately and monitors work of LVN/MA.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor and can report to a provider in a well prepared manner, ability to take verbal orders and enter/carry them out appropriately.
  • Interest in reaching out to the community of oncology.
  • Participating in local events such as local ONS Chapter.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
  • Shows initiative for professional practice and pursuing ongoing education.
  • Celgene Certification required once orientation period completed.
